Midhani has developed an improved process to achieve high permeability in iron-cobalt alloy in the range of 12000-15000 for hot rolled products. Softcomag 49A (equivalent to 2V-Permendur) is a soft magnetic alloy with high saturation magnetization, low magnetocrystalline anisotropy, high curie temperature (950°C) and associated higher magnetic permeability. Softcomag 49A is an equiatomic iron-cobalt alloy with 2% vanadium. This particular alloy is relatively expensive and therefore used for specialized applications requiring the magnetic properties exhibited by this material. Main applications are in aerospace and defence sectors such as transformer cores, electric generators in aircrafts, receiver coils, relay switches and storage cores. Very thin strips (<0.3mm) can be produced by cold rolling using special heat treatment operations. A controlled hot rolling process was developed to obtain higher magnetic permeability by controlling the hot rolling process parameters.
