A tungsten base maraging steel with ultrahigh strength (2110MPa) and high impact toughness (35J/cm2) has been indigenously manufactured using double vacuum melting route. The vacuum melted ingots were processed to realise hot rolled bars of size 45mm dia x L. This material finds applications in defence sector such as fin stabilized armour piercing discarding sabot (FSAPDS).
